I learned about the annual canoe clinic from the newspaper in the early 1990's. I attended that clinic on the Ouchita River, but didn't really get active until Dean Miller led a series of hikes and backpacking trips along the Ouchita Trail. We would take a section of the trail one weekend each month until the entire trail was finished.
