Cypress Paddle Recap

The Sunday the 15th Pop-Up paddle had two BCOS members paddle from the 162 boat launch on Cypress Lake up the creek as far as we could go. We encountered cormorants, mallards, canadian geese, turkey vultures and snowy egrets along the way.  A belted kingfisher was seen and heard along the route as we neared the rookery. As we neared the nests, the great blue herons took to the sky. On our way back we were able to watch a family of hogs from a close distance for quite a while.  There was some wind on the way back but otherwise a very good five and a half mile paddle. -Mark Robinson

Lake D'Arbonne State Park Recap

On the morning of January 10th, thirteen BCOS members and one BCOS pup met at the boat launch at Lake D’Arbonne State Park in Farmerville for some outdoor exercise.

As we set out on the Cypress Bend Trail, Wayne’s granddaughter, Eden, and Tammy and David’s granddaughter, Rylee, were eager to hunt for geocaches—if there happened to be any hidden nearby. A quick search on the Geocaching app revealed several caches tucked along the trail we were hiking.

For those unfamiliar, geocaching is a real-world outdoor treasure-hunting game that uses GPS to locate hidden containers—essentially searching for Tupperware in the woods! In this global scavenger hunt, the containers can range from tiny waterproof matchboxes to peanut butter jars to large ammo boxes. The girls successfully found two geocaches during our hike. One was a tiny green aluminum capsule containing only a slip of paper for signing their names as proof of…

Renewal info from the Ozark Society

Renewing - Some Questions & Answers

Techno-stress.  WHO NEEDS IT?… especially this time of year.  We’ve fielded a few questions on the renewal entry process.  Here is what we’ve learned.

You renewed, but your spouse is still getting renewal notices

Dues cover both you AND your spouse.  To ensure both of you get Ozark Society emails, the renewal process allows you to enter both your emails.  We encourage this.  But, if you entered both your emails last year, but just renewed with only YOUR email this year, the renewal screen does not update your spouse as renewed, and they will continue to get renewal notices.   Dang!   If  this happens to you, just email Martha Morris:  morr4@ymail.com, or me: thompsonadd@gmail.com.   We will confirm your payment, and update your spouse as paid.

The renewal screen says your emails don’t match

Hate this, but making you enter your email twice…

New kayak launch on Cypress Lake!

The Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area has installed a kayak launch at the Hwy 162 boat ramp on Cypress Lake. This is a great improvement to the muddy bank that has challenged many of us over the years. Thanks to John Oswick and his CBBRA crew!!
