Renewal info from the Ozark Society

Renewing - Some Questions & Answers

Techno-stress.  WHO NEEDS IT?… especially this time of year.  We’ve fielded a few questions on the renewal entry process.  Here is what we’ve learned.

You renewed, but your spouse is still getting renewal notices

Dues cover both you AND your spouse.  To ensure both of you get Ozark Society emails, the renewal process allows you to enter both your emails.  We encourage this.  But, if you entered both your emails last year, but just renewed with only YOUR email this year, the renewal screen does not update your spouse as renewed, and they will continue to get renewal notices.   Dang!   If  this happens to you, just email Martha Morris:  morr4@ymail.com, or me: thompsonadd@gmail.com.   We will confirm your payment, and update your spouse as paid.

The renewal screen says your emails don’t match

Hate this, but making you enter your email twice ensures we get your email exactly right.  If you get this message and the emails look like they match, it is probably an invisible character on the end, possibly a tab character.   Just erase them both, and re-enter.  Trust me, you’ll get there.

The Renewal screen says your total us under $30

For non-life members, you must enter a minimum of $20 for the main organization, and then select a chapter which adds another $10.   If you miss one of these, you’ll get this message.  Just give it a look and try again.

Highland’s Chapter Members Only - SPAM filter and missing emails

The Highland’s Chapter uses a listserve email address for communicating with members:

ozarksociety-highlandschapter@listserv.uark.edu

Recently, a lot of Highland’s Chapter event notifications have been going into the SPAM/junk folders of their members rather than their inbox.  Frustrating, as members often don’t even realize they are missing emails.  Aside from checking your junk folder, here are some things you can do to fix this:

  1. Designate the listserv address as a “contact” or “safe sender” in your email.  To do this, go into your contacts and add the OSHC listserv as a “contact.”  For example, declare the contact’s name as, e.g., OSHC Listserv, and the contact’s email address as ozarksociety-highlandschapter@listserv.uark.edu

  2. If you are not receiving OSHC listserv emails, go to your “junk” or “spam” box in your email and look for an email from the OHSC listserv.  Move the email into your “inbox.”  Doing this repeatedly may “train” your email system to recognize OSHC emails as legitimate and not “spam” emails.

  3. Last, but not least, go to the Ozark Society website at www.ozarksociety.net  where I post all chapter hikes, meetings, and activities.  They usually go onto the website the same day I receive them from Steve Singleton, Judi Nail, Peggy Bulla, Tom Perry, etc.  Just go to the homepage and cursor down to the Outings-Activities calendar to see the announcements.

Other questions?

Call me if you need to.  I get it.  At the very least I will be sympathetic.
