BCOS Weekend Recap: Glamping, Paddling, and Unforgettable Moments
Twelve spirited members of BCOS traded the ordinary for the extraordinary during a weekend getaway that was equal parts adventure and indulgence. Nestled in a picturesque, gated community on a branch of the Lower Mountain Fork River, our group enjoyed scenic views, peaceful wildlife—including deer and turtles—and a home base that redefined the art of “glamping.”
We packed food for forty but only needed enough for twelve (plus a day-tripping paddler)—meaning leftovers for days and a whole lot of laughter in between. Kayaking plans were touch and go until a last-minute green light from our trusted outfitter, Skippa-Rock, whose top-notch service and gear launched us into a river adventure we won’t soon forget.
We had 17 paddlers hit the water on Saturday morning - 12 glampers and five day trippers. The current was lively, and so were we. Several paddlers took surprise dips (five or six, for those counting), while others leapt from “Conversation Rock” or channeled their inner Tarzan (or “Tarzana,” if you ask Melissa) with rope swings. We saw Becky and Larry for just a minute as they watched the Presbytarian Falls carnage from the safety of the bank. A charcuterie on the gravel bar made for a truly bougie riverside picnic.
But what’s a BCOS outing without a little drama? Tammy’s wedding ring took a mysterious plunge into the river, and Mark R. earned a ****** shin—totally separate incidents but both unfortunate. Saturday night brought a taco fiesta at the aptly nicknamed Casa de Mucho Rios, where full bellies, flowing drinks, and the occasional nap set the tone for an evening of games, bug warfare, and general merriment.
On Sunday, four adventurers paddled the 4-mile section once more—this time down a rockier, slower river—while three others opted for a 1.5-mile tubing float. No sign of the missing ring, despite determined treasure hunting. Maybe Murfreesboro would’ve offered better odds.
Lunch in DeQueen wrapped the weekend with small-town charm and a splash of surprise when Jill ran into high school friends and got iced down by a mischievous server.
In true BCOS fashion, the trip delivered scenic beauty, belly laughs, and a boatload of memories. Until next time—paddle on!

Great weather and water. Good group of folks.
Oh and I LOL’d when Kim Cox proclaimed “There’s nobody I’d rather do near death experiences with than you people!” 😂😂😂 I do feel the same way!
I had so much fun on this trip!!! Some of my favorite moments were swinging from the rope swing into the river, and when a bunch of us dog-piled Mark Robinson’s boat 😂, and playing Nertz & Telestrations (and laughing so hard I cried), and sitting down by the campfire, watching the fire flies… and of course paddling the Lower Mountain Fork!! That was so much fun, several of us went twice!! It’s a really fun challenge to paddle so fast through a rocky obstacle course… and then conquer it! 👊 Oh, and getting so close to that huge bird! That was so cool. And the taco bar at the house was so good! Great food & great conversations with the greatest friends!!! Awesome memories were made! Thanks for planning such an amazing weekend, Tammy!! 😁
Looks like a great trip! Doesn’t look crowded like it was when I last went.
