About the event
The Bayou Chapter will have a hiking/paddling/biking outing at White Oak Lake State Park this coming weekend - November 15-17. Weather should be very nice! We will have a group fish fry on Friday evening, courtesy of Cindy and Dave Brix. Saturday morning, we will hike one of several easy trails in the park. On Saturday evening, we will have another group meal - this time a spaghetti dinner. We need an accurate head count so we can prepare the meals so if you plan on coming, please let me know by Tuesday.
The park features hiking trails of easy to moderate difficulty. Deer and heron sightings are common at the park, while some bald eagles winter there. They are drawing down the lake so we’re not sure about paddling yet. We should know more in the next few days.
White Oak Lake is reasonably popular with local residents, but its location in a part of Arkansas with few tourists keeps it from undue crowding or traffic. White Oak Lake is near thePoison Springs Battleground State Park, a Civil War battlefield.
Completed in 1961, the lake is 19 miles southeast of Prescott, and 15 miles northwest ofCamden, off State Highways 387 and 24. It’s about a 2 to 2.5 hour drive from Shreveport.
