About the event

Information from Wayne regarding this event:

Friday June 2nd to Saturday June 3rd,  Susan and I are inviting you to Jefferson Tx for a camping and kayaking weekend.  This is a free no pay camping opportunity to give newcomers to camping a chance to primitive camp but not be too primitive.  Bring a tent or an RV and stay on private property about 2 miles north of Brookshires in Jeffferson. Camping is in a yard with no electric but a cabin is available for toilet and shelter should a storm pop up. We will have bonfire Friday evening we will provide hotdogs, buns and condiments.  Bring a food or snack to share.

Saturday we will paddle Big Cypress Bayou from downtown Jefferson public launch north for 2 hours in a very scenic river.  It only takes an hour to return .

After you are free to eat at the many great places the town has to offer.

If you want to only camp , that works too or just come and paddle. LOVE to have newbies and old time campers.

There is 500 acres to hike and ride bikes or ATVs on also.

Update #1:  Reminder to those camping. Be sure to bring bedding and something to sleep on(mattress), bug spray, a battery fan may help if its warm, flashlight, chair, food for breakfast and snack for the paddle, WATER and hydration fluids.

Kayaking ?? Bring WATER and hydration liquids.  There is a freezer we can use so frozen bottles of water work well on the paddle. Sunblock , hat and sunglasses. A hand towel is also great to cover legs or wipe body with cool water.

Folks if you haven't got a checklist , think about making one.   This is a practice outing.  Stores will be close but on future trips they may not be near you. We have hiking  and ATV trails we are welcome to use.   500 acres to play on. PLAN accordingly.

DIRECTIONS, BCOS signs will be posted on TX RT 49 ( turn rt.)and further up the single lane road ( MCR 3200) 1352 Marion County Rd.  Second turn is a left turn past a pecan orchard /white fence. Follow the signs.  I mowed several acres today so we have plenty of room for tents, RVs and day campers who are  welcome if you want to just come enjoy the property with friends.

Update #2:  Friday is the camping at Jefferson and Saturday is the 11AM paddle. The previous emails have trip details so we hope you can come.  If you haven't let us know you will be there Friday, please do so we know how many hotdogs to buy.  Please bring a food to share ,we are providing dogs and baked beans.

Remember to bring a chair, bug spray, drinks and all your camping needs.  We are staying in a yard /woods.  There is a bathroom and kitchen should we need it. If you need any details please call or email us .

Be prepared to paddle with plenty of drinks, snacks and sun protection for about 3 hours of paddling.

There is no charge for camping or the launch.  Brookshires is only 5 minutes away should you need anything.

Update #3:  For Google Maps people, here is a pin to the public boat launch in Jefferson.
