About the event
Event open to Ozark Society members.
Mark your calendars to join us at Petit Jean State Park for some hiking and exploring along the BEAUTIFUL trails including Bear Cave Trail, Cedar Creek Trail, Canyon Trail, Cedar Falls Trail, Rock House Trail, and Seven Hollows Trail!
Petit Jean State Park has a lodge, cabins, yurts, and campsites available so may want to go ahead and make your reservations for this weekend early. If camping, many have booked sites around the #77-87 loop so look for a site near there.
Tentative schedule of events (join us for some or all of these!)
Friday 3/21/23 :
Be sure to stop at Petit Jean's Gravesite and overlook at Stout's Point on your way (about 4 miles before you get to the park entrance) Google map to this location: https://goo.gl/maps/a7uyQwGPUEcZyeAK6
2:00 - Bear Cave Trail Hike (meet at the trailhead behind the lodge) - short trail/ hike takes less than an hour- AMAZING views of rock formations, caves, etc; this is an easy hike
3:00 - We'll meet at/drive to to Cedar Falls Overlook to ooooh and aaahhhh over the view of the falls from the top
4:00 - We'll drive to the trailhead for the Rock House Cave trail (very short hike through "turtle rock" formations to a VERY cool cave!); this is an easy hike
5:00 - early dinner at the Lodge Restaurant
7:00 - sunset watching & after dinner drinks & dessert (BYO beverage, goodies to share, and lawn chair) at the CCC Overlook (most beautiful sunset watching spot at Petit Jean!!)
Saturday 3/22/23
9 am to about noon - out and back hike along Cedar Falls Trail + Canyon Trail - trailhead behind lodge - hike from lodge to Cedar Falls and then along the Canyon Trail to the Blue Hole area (bring a snack to enjoy there); sections of these trails are pretty challenging (steep/climbing/slippery) so bring hiking poles & wear good "grippy" hiking shoes
lunch on your own (lodge restaurant, nearby sandwich shop, picnic, whatever) + rest/hang out
3 pm - Cedar Creek Trail hike - short but very SCENIC loop hike along Cedar Creek; moderate hike in terms of terrain
dinner at the lodge or on your own
evening hangout around the campfire
Sunday 3/23/23
9 am - Seven Hollows trail hike - 4 mile loop that includes the beautiful Natural Bridge and the Grotto (*Tammy Jernigan will lead this one); mostly "moderate" difficulty with a few more challenging (steep/slippery) sections to navigate
