Ouachita River Haven Fun Days Kayak Canoe Hike or Camp Adventure

The Bayou Chapter of the Ozark Society will host an adventure weekend on the Ouachita River near Mount Ida, Arkansas on June 17-19 Participants will canoe/kayak in a group with a lead boat and a sweep boat at the rear to make sure no one gets left behind. For those new to paddling, experienced members will be available to offer instruction.

Come to all or any. Everyone is welcome.

We will meet Friday June 17th 12:30pm we will meet below the bathrooms and launch from Ouachita Haven Campgrounds. On water by 1:00pm SHARP. We will paddle from camp to Dragover 4 miles if anyone wants to take-out at that point you may arrange shuttle with your personal vehicle or Ouachita Haven. We will continue the paddle around to the end of Dragover loop another 3 miles. We will arrange shuttle with Ouachita Haven or personal vehicles. It's only 6 miles by road to the take-out from camp.

Saturday June 18th we will meet at the top of hill near the office at 9am SHARP to load boats. Ouachita Haven will shuttle us to the put in location at Oden. On water by 10am. This paddle is approximately 13 miles. We will paddle back to camp. We will be in no hurry to get back to camp. There are many locations to stop swim and play along this beautiful clear river. We should arrive back to camp about 5-6pm. There's is plenty of current even at the lower level. We will not paddle the river if it is over the 5 foot level. It's too swift for most bayou paddlers. If your renting boats from Ouachita Haven you need to make your reservation ahead of times to insure your have a boat available for you. Everyone is responsible for your own shuttle fees and boat rentals.

The campsite is the Ouachita River Haven Resort www.ouachitahaven.com . Tent camping is are available per night and cabins are also available. Campsites include tent space, table, lantern pole, fire pit and grill. Camping fee includes use of showers and toilets and the showers have warm water!

Directions From Mt. Ida, Arkansas Take Hwy 270 W for 5 miles. Turn right on Hwy 298. Go 4 miles to Sims. At the STOP sign turn LEFT onto Hwy 88 W for 1.3 miles. Cross Fiddler Creek. Immediately turn left on Maddox Bend Rd. Turn left at the second road, Ouachita River Haven Rd
