About the event
Hi BCOS friends!
There is a Water Sweep community service event in Ouachita Parish coming up on Saturday, September 14. We can take this opportunity to do a little community service cleanup, then grab a bite of lunch and paddle around the bayou for a bit. There's also an outdoor concert and the annual "Grape Stomp" happening later that afternoon at Landry's Vineyard in West Monroe.
If you'd like to participate, please use this link to sign up for the water sweep community service project --https://ouachitagreen.org/volunteer/ -- and click on the button to Register Now. When you get to the dropdown box to select the event, select "Water Sweep (September 14 @ 8:00 am)". For the Location, select "Bayou Desiard @ ULM."
NOTE: all the other locations begin their cleanup at 8:00, but the cleanup at the ULM location begins at 9:00 a.m.
PLEASE also RSVP on the BCOS app or email me to let me know you're coming!
We'll plan to meet on the campus of ULM in the parking lot behind Coenen Hall by 8:40 am. There should be plenty of parking there. Here is the GPS location: https://www.google.com/maps/place/32%C2%B031'52.5%22N+92%C2%B004'27.1%22W/@32.531238,-92.0754855,18z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m13!1m8!3m7!1s0x862e460570b4f687:0x2f215b104dee99ba!2sCoenen+Hall,+University+Ave,+Monroe,+LA+71203!3b1!8m2!3d32.5307629!4d-92.0742568!16s%2Fg%2F11h0jh05z!3m3!8m2!3d32.531238!4d-92.074198?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI0MDgyOC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D
From there we will need to walk over to the fountain by the ULM Library (about a 5-minute-or-less walk) where the organizers will give us instructions. I imagine they will have supplies for us to use for the cleanup, but if you have any of these items on hand and want to bring them, that would be helpful: Gloves, trash bag, bucket, litter grabbers, etc... Also bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated. I will also bring a collapsible wagon.
After the cleanup, we can put our kayaks in the bayou and paddle a short distance to the Waterfront Grill for lunch. They have a screened-in patio overlooking the bayou. After lunch we can take a longer paddle down the beautiful Bayou Desiard to work off that delicious meal!
Ideally, we should be back to our vehicles around 3-ish.
Don't forget to bring your PFD, sunscreen, insect repellent, sun hats, drinks, etc... to stay cool & safe on the water.
