About the event

Red River Moonlight Paddle

We did a recon paddle to the sandbars Wednesday and it all looks good for Saturday.  It’s not near as muddy as it was on our last paddle.  Moonrise is at 4:38pm and sunset is at 7:46pm.  We’ll have a waxing gibbous moon at 78.1% illumination that will be 228,734 miles above us.  Early forecast calls for a launch temp of 91* and 10% chance of rain.  Hopefully that’s enough detail to entice you to come play with us!

When:  Saturday, August 26 at 7:30 pm – paddles in the water at 8:00pm (and not leaving the launch area before 8:00pm )

Where:  SPAR property beside the Sam’s Town parking garage in downtown Shreveport

Launch location:

What: We will paddle from under the Clyde Fant bridge up the river and then back to a sandbar for socializing.

Parking/amenities: Park and offload boats at location on the map above. You can drive into the area between the gate bollard and the light pole.

You can drive down close to the river's edge with a truck or SUV, but there is some debris and holes along the hill.  They can be seen if you go slow and watch carefully.  It is steep.  If you're not comfortable, just park on the asphalt right past the gate.

While there is some brown grass, a lot is still green.  Please don’t take a low sitting vehicle into the grass due to fire danger.

Lagniappe: Expect to be back to the parking lot between 10-11:00pm.   I'd prefer for us to stay together as a group.

Due to the fire ban and the heat, we will not have an open fire (Hopefully, Marian will bring us a virtual fire).  David wants to paddle so we are not bringing a motorboat.  Plan to tote what you want to bring in your own boat.  I will be bringing loaner kayaks. If you need one, let me know prior to noon on Saturday.

Duration:  2.5 hours

What to bring:  Kayak, paddle, PFD, LIGHTS, snacks, chair, bug spray, sunblock, and drink and more drink.

Leader/Contact person:  Tammy Jernigan
