Caney Lake Hike

**this event moved to Sunday because of bad weather threat for Saturday. Plan is to hike the Sugar Cane + Kona trail (6.5 miles) and possible lunch in Minden after the hike

When:  Sunday 12/10/23  9:00 am

Cost:  There is a $5 per vehicle fee.  Stop at the iron ranger (check-in spot) to put your 5$ in envelope (remember to tear off the part to put on your dash) and place envelope in slot (there's also a new device at the check in station that appears to accept credit card payments).

Parking/Instructions:  Meeting/parking at the Upper Caney Lake Boat Launch.  There are 2 different boat launches in this recreational area so don’t go to the wrong one… we are meeting at the UPPER Caney boat launch that is near the campground.  Upon entering the park (after stopping to pay your $5) turn LEFT and follow the signs toward the campground.  Look for boat launch sign on right after about a mile(?) or less.

Bathrooms:  there are bathrooms available at the parking area

Duration:  around 3 hours

Difficulty:   I would say “moderate”… there are some hills to climb on these trails

What to bring:  The “usual”… water, bug spray, hiking stick if needed.

Pets:  These trails are dog-friendly (must be leashed;  be prepared to pick up after your pet)
