About the event
When: Saturday 2/19/22 at 8:30 am
Please read, this hike is 8 miles. Be prepared. Bring plenty of Nutritional food, drink and Proper footwear
Where: Caney Lake Recreation Area https://goo.gl/maps/vhwVWWgBmQPgdfdF8
Cost: There is a $5 per vehicle fee. Stop at the iron ranger (check-in spot) to put your 5$ in envelope (remember to tear off the part to put on your dash) and place envelope in slot.
Parking/Instructions: Meeting/parking at the Upper Caney Lake Boat Launch. There are 2 different boat launches in this recreational area so don’t go to the wrong one… we are meeting at the UPPER Caney boat launch that is near the campground. Upon entering the park (after stopping to pay your $5) turn LEFT and follow the signs toward the campground. Look for boat launch sign on right after about a mile(?) or less.
Duration: We’re hiking the Sugarcane Trail and the Kona Trail (for a total of around 8 miles) which should take about 3-4 hours "ish".
Difficulty: It’s an “easy” trail in terms of terrain but this is a long hike so plan accordingly.
What to bring: The “usual”… water, bug spray, hiking stick if needed.
Pets: These trails are dog-friendly (must be leashed; be prepared to pick up after your pet)
Other: Bring a small garbage bag if you're willing to help pick up/carry out any trash we run across from the trails.
After the hike: Plan to eat lunch at Los Compas restaurant in Dixie Inn https://goo.gl/maps/mfYL9ekXqehhBsUj7
