About the event
When: Saturday, January 27th - 10:00AM
Where: Bodcau Dam (Durden Hills Nature Trails) - Bayou Bodcau Dam
Google map for driving directions to the trailhead: https://goo.gl/maps/MFXyjCXjBjsNsHPB9
Cost: no cost but need to "check in" either using the LDWF app or at the check-in station on site
Parking/amenities: Meeting in the parking lot at the iron ranger station (check-in station) at the TOP of the Bodcau Dam; PLEASE BE SURE NOT TO PARK NEAR CONCRETE AREA HERE (IT BLOCKS RV ACCESS TO THE DUMP STATION) No cost but need to check-in either using the paper forms at the iron ranger station or on your phone using the LDWF app. All of the Durden Hills trails can be accessed from this parking lot. There are restrooms DOWN the hill from this parking area in the Tom Merrill campgrounds (both on the upstream side of the dam and the downstream side of the dam) that are typically very clean/nice (arrive EARLY so that you have time to hit those restrooms before the hike).
Duration/Distance: Planning to hike the RED + YELLOW Loops (about 4.5 miles/2 hours).
Difficulty: Easy to Moderate (there are some hills to climb on these trails)
Trail/Route Links: I have these hiking trails mapped in All Trails, Gai, etc and other map resources - that info is accessible at https://www.bayouchapter.com/post/local-hikes-bodcau-durden-hills-trails
What to bring: The “usual”… water, snack, bug spray, hiking stick if needed.
Pets: These trails are dog-friendly (must be leashed; be prepared to pick up after your pet)
Other: Bring a small garbage bag if you're willing to help pick up/carry out any trash we run across from the trails.
