Bodcau/Durden Hills Trail Hike

When:  Sunday Oct 8th 2023 - 9:00AM

Where:  Bodcau Dam (Durden Hills Nature Trails) - Bayou Bodcau Dam

Cost:  no cost but need to "check in" either using the LDWF app or at the check-in station on site

Parking/amenities:  Meeting in the parking lot at the iron ranger station (check-in station) at the TOP of the Bodcau Dam;  No cost but need to check-in either using the paper forms at the iron ranger station or on your phone using the LDWF app.  All of the Durden Hills trails can be accessed from this parking lot. There are restrooms DOWN the hill from this parking area in the Tom Merrill campgrounds (both on the upstream side of the dam and the downstream side of the dam) that are typically very clean/nice (arrive EARLY so that you have time to hit those restrooms before the hike).

PART 1:  We'll hike the ORANGE loop first at 9 am which is about a 2.5 mile hike (about 1 hour duration).  

PART 2: Those that are up for MORE can then stay for a hike of the RED + YELLOW Loops (about 4.5 miles/2 hours).  

So you can opt for just part 1 (a 2.5 mile/1 hour hike) or can opt for just part 2 (will start around 10 am - a 4.5 mile/2 hour hike) or can join for BOTH for around a 7 mile/3 hour adventure)!

Difficulty:   Easy to Moderate (there are some hills to climb on these trails)

What to bring:  The “usual”… water, snack, bug spray, hiking stick if needed.

Pets:  These trails are dog-friendly (must be leashed;  be prepared to pick up after your pet)

Other:  Bring a small garbage bag if you're willing to help pick up/carry out any trash we run across from the trails.
