Welcome and thanks for taking a few minutes to read my "blog". The Bayou Chapter is almost five years old now and we seem to have a solid base of about 60 members. Our functions regularly brings between 25-35 people and a varying number of boats. As we have said all along, our chapter is not the typical ACBS chapter. The boats we have are far more vaired and the lakes, rivers and bayous are different than most across the country and this to me is one of the most exicting things about our chapter. We are always anxious to have new members who have an interest in boating and it does seem that our membership is expanding from the Northshore down to Biloxi, over to Baton Rouge and into New Orleans. Our goal is to provide functions that any and all can participate in regardlkess of the type of boat they own or if they own a boat at all. Wa hot streak we are having !!! We've considered having a raft-up or just gathering at the Madisonville river wall but with the very high temperatures, very high humidity and frequency of nasty afternoon storms, it just seems like a bad idea !! Can't imagine it will get any better in August but we'll see what the weather does in the next few weeks and may plan something very quickly for some weekend afternoon. We'll keep in touch on that. So the next scheduled event is the Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival. Hope you have all sent in your registrations and of course, we look forward to seeing everyone there. Speaking of the WBF and the museum, this year's sponsorships are coming in a bit slow, so if you are so inclined, or know of an individual or business that might be so inclined, the museum is looking for sponsors at all levels. As we discussed at our last meeting, the Bayou Chapter did step up and became a sponsor for this year's festival. If you have any questions, please let me know. That's really all the news we have at this point. If any of you would like to get together for an afternoon or any other time, on or off the water, let us know and we'll see what we can do. With oils spills, scheduling conflicts, and weather, we've had a hard time getting events going but we wanted all of you to know that we'll keeping working at it and try to get together soon. If you have suggestion, ideas, want to join our chapter or become more involved, please do not hesitate to contact me Safe boating, Alan (posted 8/22/2011)
