Welcome and thanks for taking a few minutes to read my "blog". The chapter is approaching our 4 year anniversey ... it has been a lot of fun, we have made a lot of new friends and I think our chapter will continue to grow and add more functions for all of our members. Certainly the past three months have been very difficult for everyone in the Gulf. Yes it has been hot and sticky, and yes the economy is still trying to recover but the impact that the oil spill is having on our friends and neighbors on the Gulf, and the fisherman and businesses there is tragic. Thankfully that as of today it appears the flow has beed stopped and efforts can now be focussed on the recovery of our shores and businesses. Having said that, we determined early this summer that it just didn't seem approriate to have Bayou Chapter functions during this period. As many of you know, Celeste and I live on the Bogue Falaya and we have been surprised at how few boats (other than ski boats) we have seen on the river so far this summer. We have a long way to go for both the recovery of our economy and our Gulf but we are anxious to see all of our boating friends in the near future. With that in mind the Madisonville Wooden Boat Festival is scheduled for October 22-24th and this could be a great forum to start putting many of these events behind us. If you haven't registered yet, get that registration in and plan for a great weekend in late October. If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me directly or the folks at the museum. After the Wooden Boat Festival the Bayou Chapter plans on having a function over the holidays and then again in the fall. As always, we look forward to all of your ideas and suggestions. There was a lot of interest in the Back Bay function we were planning before the spill and that is something we will want to revisit. A Bayou Chapter "float" for the Tchefuncte Krewe could also be fun. And, there are always those simple but relaxing weekends along the Madisonville River Wall. The reason that most of us got involved with the Bayou Chapter in the first place was to be with friends who enjoyed boating and being on the water. It has been too long for most of us and we are looking forward to getingt things going again and seeing all of you very soon.
